Signs of Transmission Problems

There’s a whole lot that goes into making a car run smoothly; because of this, sometimes it’s hard to even know that something is wrong. Your transmission is one of those parts that you cannot do without. It’s important to stay ahead of repairs before problems compound. Here are a few signs that your transmission is having problems and needs to be taken in:

Slipping:

Transmission slipping may not always be easy to spot. A couple of signs are your RPM going over 3,500 or your car suddenly seeming like it’s jumping gears or struggling. Some usual causes of transmission slipping include: defective parts, low fluid, and worn out or broken band.

Unstable Shifting:

If your car isn’t able to shift gears, or does so in a rough manner, your transmission is probably having problems. You might also hear a banging noise when it does shift gears.

Slow Engagement:

If when you shift your car from Park to Drive, it doesn’t go but just revs the engine, then your transmission isn’t working correctly.

Leaking:

The way transmissions are built, they should never leak fluid. Generally the fluid will be a red, dark red, or brown color. If you see transmission fluid leaking, take it into the shop; refilling should be done by professionals as overfilling the fluid can create issues as bad or worse as the leaking fluid.
